Before The Brady Bunch

Here’s the story,
Of a lovely lady;
Who was bringing up
4 very lovely girls-

Although they didn’t have hair of gold like the Brady Bunch, this lady and her girls were each relatively peaceful. Life was filled with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, trips to the beach and dance lessons.

But it didn’t start that way.

Life got easier, but only after some bumps in the road. Some of those bumps in the road included pre-term labor, NICU stays, pneumonia, breastfeeding challenges, formula problems, anaphylactic reactions (no more peanut butter sandwiches for THIS bunch!), postpartum depression, sleep challenges for twins and everyone else.

Ironically, this lady was a doula who never realized that she needed a doula.

Eventually, things got easier for this lovely lady and her 4 lovely girls. So if you’re staring into the jar of peanut butter wondering when this will all get easier, just know that eventually it WILL get easier. You don’t have to wait to see how long that takes, though. Doulas of Los Angeles has Labor and Postpartum Doulas available to help with exactly this set of challenges!

One of the things that The Brady Bunch never shows is what life was like before – before the immaculate shared bathroom, before the challenges of adolescence, before Alice arrived to smooth life (much like a postpartum doula).

Unseen to us, the viewing public, there were challenges that resulted in a man being left to raise his sons alone and a woman facing the challenges of raising her daughters alone. The story didn’t end there, though. It’s just the beginning.

The final line to the show’s opening theme song is, “that’s the way we became the Brady Bunch.” That’s what we are doing – we are becoming. And YOUR story is beginning!
