No Child Wet Behind

Did you know that approximately 30% of mothers cannot afford sufficient diapers?

An infant may use up to 240 diapers per month, and at a cost of roughly $936, that puts many mothers and babies in a tight spot. And government assistance programs like SNAP (food stamps) and WIC don’t cover non-food items, like diapers or wipes

And it gets more discouraging. The American Academy of Pediatrics found that babies who sit too long in soiled diapers are more vulnerable to rashes, and they fuss and cry more. So picture a mother, who is worried about how she’s going to make ends meet, how she’s going to put put food on the table and keep the electricity on, whose baby won’t stop crying. It’s very easy for that mother to become overwhelmed and unstable. She’s more likely to suffer from severely damaging mental health challenges and her ability to bond with her baby is impaired.

These mothers also are often limited in their living spaces, sometimes having uncertain housing. Access to a washer and dryer is sometimes limited, making cloth diapering a challenge. Even if they are able to handle the transportation to a laundromat, they are often prohibited from washing soiled cloth diapers in a public facility.

So the folks at No Child Wet Behind, a 501c3 nonprofit, dedicated to providing diapers and wipes to families in need, have worked out a solution!

A Diaper Drive & Fundraiser!

5k plus a 1 mile Family Fun Run

SATURDAY MAY 21ST, 2016

LOCATION TBA

On Saturday, May 21st, Doulas of Los Angeles will host the 1st Annual No Child Wet Behind Diaper Drive and 5k in Southern California. There will be children’s activities, a shopping boutique, food and more, this community event will bring together our many supporters and partners in order to raise awareness about the many babies in need throughout Los Angeles.

We are currently searching for companies to partner with to raise awareness for these babies and families. All diapers and proceeds will benefit local families through this amazing organization. We are looking for involvement from our local community as well as national retailers with a presence in the greater Los Angeles area, and hope you will consider joining us in a leadership role at this event by volunteering, sponsoring, donating funds, donating diapers or simply spreading the word.
